Every young genius has an imaginary friend. Unfortunately so do some simpletons.

Moone Boy is a semi-autobiographical sitcom written, produced and co-starring Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, The Sapphires, The IT Crowd) about a boy growing up in Ireland in the 1980s. O’Dowd plays Sean Murphy, the imaginary friend of 11-year-old Martin Moone (David Rawle), who also narrates his adventures. But while most boys would dream up a superhero sidekick, Martin’s pal is a man in his mid-30s with the most common name in Ireland!

The youngest member of the large, loud Moone family headed by Martin’s songwriter father, who longs to be an artist and his frazzled mother, this is a family with a lot of love where everyone tends to pull in different directions! Martin has a unique perspective on life and his imagination comes into play both in his childish drawings, which come alive through animation, and in the ridiculous schemes he comes up with, against Sean’s better judgement. With Sean’s help, Martin negotiates life in a chaotic, scatterbrained family.

If you’d like a copy (or are looking for a way to pass off your Chris O’Dowd fetish as a normal thing) email allan@bmamag.com and tell him what O’Dowd’s character in IT Crowd, Roy, thinks of ‘people’.

Email the editor with your name, phone number and address to see if you can pick up yourself a one of these.
