Title: NEW! - Social Media competitions
Post by: Administrator on Sunday 09 June 2013, 06:07:19 pm
We now have a special section just for Social Media competitions.
This should tidy up a few things.

It still needs to be integrated into CompFolio properly, but it's ready to go.
I know this should make some of our members very happy.
:)

Thanks for that. It will be a great help! Social Media is a sign of the times I'm afraid.  :)

I hate this idea it's utterly stupid and something I would never want on this site.....

[Do Not Believe The Above Statement]

Thanks Admin!!

Somewhat ironically the introduction of a separate section for social media is designed for the small and decreasing number of people who DON'T use social media to enter competitions.

Thanks admin :-)  Now all we need is a rafflecopter section so I can avoid those comps more easily  (Just kidding)

Just a quick question:

 - Some comps have both facebook entry AND other entry methods for those without fb, such as website or postal entry - which section would you prefer those comps be posted in?
 - Some are facebook comps with daily /weekly draws - would these go in the social media section or ongoing comps section?
 - Some comps have entry via website/blog and then EXTRA entries are gained by facebook like, twitter etc (eg. comps on the Impulse gamer website) Thanks for answering zoe :)

This is true.  I would have loved this section 6 months ago (before I reluctantly joined fb for comping) , so that I could've filtered out social media comps because it was really disappointing to click on a link and then realise "oh, it's a facebook/twitter comp'.  Since joining fb though, I don't mind social media comps being amongst web comps (but I can understand why most people would like the social media comps separate)

This section is great! :) A huge thank you to Admin, for setting it up! :)

One thing though, there is no box to put the 'Total Value Amount' in?! - I couldn't find it, when I posted up a comp, last night.

Because of the dangers of social media, this wasn't an easy decision to make.
It's evident that over the past few years we've seen a trend of decreasing SMS & Phone-in comps and an increase in Social Media comps.
Ironically, instead of embracing the support of these types of comps, we've included them in an attempt to filter-out or filter-in these types of comps - depending on your point of view.
Instead of providing a new section, we could have integrated it into Web Comps as a separate checkbox and modified CompFolio so it could be filtered out, however, only CompFolio users would be able to do this.

I'll have to sit down and sort out the hierarchy as it's evident that most comps fall into more than one category.
For now, if the comp requires you to go to a Social Media website - irrespective of whether it's a children's comp, a re-ocurring comp or any other type, it should go into the Social Media Competitions section.

By the way, the  CompFolio should now work and the 'Total Value Amount' problem has been fixed but if there is anything else that doesn't work, please let me know.
Thanks.
:)

I'm so smart [not] I just posted a fb comp to the new Social Media section without even knowing about it!  I posted, then read this thread, went back in to work out how to post my comp to the right section and Lo! 'Twas already there?  Is there a 'bot or pixie watching over me?

Thanks for the new section too

Love the new section admin and I've moved what I think fits into social media.

To answer compers question, if the comp requires you to enter on their website and gives you the option to also gain "extra" entries by liking their facebook page, I would then put that comp into web comps. My reason would be that you are not required to enter the comp through facebook but rather gain the extra entries if you so wish.
