We asked for you to enter your salami into the Melbourne Salami Festa competition a few weeks back. Well, the competition is only one part of this celebration of salami.

Sure, the competition is hotly contested, often with even hotter salami. But you can still get involved if your family doesn't have salami hanging in the garage.

Based in the Northcote Town Hall, the festa brings together producers, local restaurants and of course, home producers to remind us that there's more to salami than the rubbery stuff on top of discount pizza. The festa consists of demonstrations, stalls and of course the judging of the hotly contested competition. And beyond the sausage, there are performances by sassy Italian women's choir La Voce Della Luna, and...well, more salami.

If this festival is about celebrating the traditions, culture and sheer deliciousness of salami, then there's plenty to party about.

The Melbourne Salami Festa takes place on Sunday September 15 at the Northcote Town Hall and Civic Square. Tickets are on sale here.
