Interspersed with flashbacks and fantasies, conversations with psychoanalysts and flurries of the artist in action, it’s an absorbing meditation on a life both lived and dreamt. Guessing what’s real and what’s not is difficult – but that’s also the point, as highlighting the artifice of the rock myth turns into its own insight. 20,000 Days on Earth is in cinemas Thursday August 21.
