Magpie Baby is musical storytelling with an illustrated and written component in the tradition of Peter and the Wolf, but with a contemporary flavour. A collaborative project between a group of Australian artists, the book and music offers parents something different to enjoy with their children at story-time.

Magpie Baby is a gorgeous musical story-book which traces the movements of little Anna Dorothy, as she grows from baby to toddler. Told in words, music and illustrations and guided by that iconic Australian bird, the magpie, this is a book to connect, and to treasure.

Authentic and original, the book and CD will help foster in your children a love of music, stories and making creative connections. After all, in a world of mass produced and commercialized children’s music, it’s never too soon to introduce your little ones to the wonder of the harpsichord and the cello – and here is an easy, fun and beautiful way to do it!

Magpie Baby is written by Diana Weston and illustrated by Kym Burrows. The 24-page book is accompanied by a CD featuring 8 songs and a book reading. You can listen to sample tracks from the CD here.

Thanks to the generous people at Captain Honey, we have five copies of Magpie Baby to give away. Each copy is valued at $25.

To win, tell us in 25 words or less, a favourite childhood song and why it is special to you.

Type ‘Magpie Baby’ into the subject line and email your answer to susanATkids-bookreviewDOTcom. The most creative answers, as judged by KBR, will win. Be sure to include your full name and address — entries without will be ineligible. Please provide a street address, as prizes cannot be delivered to PO Boxes.
