Is This The Real World is the independently-made first feature from Melbourne-based writer/director Martin McKenna. Featuring a smouldering performance by emerging star Sean Keenan (Puberty Blues, Glitch), and a standout acting debut by Matt Colwell, Martin McKenna’s debut feature is a slow-burn journey into the mind of a 17 year-old, and a piercingly real portrait of a family on the edge. A man who needs no introduction, Matt Colwell, better known as rapper 360, is one of Australia’s must successful rappers. His double platinum 2012 album Flying & Falling featured the 4x platinum single Boys Like You with Triple J favourite Gossling. He has appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, supported Eminem on tour and recently launched the ‘180 Movement’ – a foundation in response to issues that impact on the young audiences that he has direct contact with through his music and online projects. A graduate of the now famous Swinburne Film & TV School, Martin McKenna has worked in TV drama for nearly two decades as a writer and director of some of Australia’s most acclaimed and beloved television series. His credits include Packed to the Rafters, Neighbours, Stingers, All Saints, Corelli and many others. Is This The Real World, which he wrote and directed, is his first feature.
