Rumour has it their knits are so complex, the company’s vintage sock machines can only produce a few dozen pairs a day. Respect for indigenous culture is woven tightly into the brand: the name CHUP, which stands for ‘Classical Human’s Universal Peace’, and its logo reference the sun, the moon, and the stars, as worshipped by Japan’s indigenous Ainu people. Priced between $35 and $45, CHUP might cost a bit more than your average tube sock, but they’ll keep your feet that much warmer. Which, when we’re this side of winter, is all we really need to hear.
