WIN TICKETS: Indigenous play comes to RPAC 5 Jul 2017, 2:18 p.m.
GRIEF: Chenoa Deemal presents a one-woman performance in The 7 Stages of Grieving.

Remaining a vital masterwork 20 years after it was penned by Wesley Enoch and Deborah Mailman, The 7 Stages of Grieving is a wise and powerful play about the grief of Aboriginal people and the hope of reconciliation.

GRIEF: Chenoa Deemal
In this one-everywoman show, Chenoa Deemal (Queensland Theatre's Mother Courage and Her Children, St. Mary's in Exile) spins poignant stories of different people from different mobs – tear-streaked tales of tragedy go hand-in-hand with jubilant celebrations of simple survival.

This important work produced by Queensland Theatre and The Grin and Tonic Theatre Troupe will tour Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales from May to June and comes to Redland Performing Arts Centre for a show at 7pm on Thursday,  August 3.

Funny, devastatingly sad, politically relevant and culturally profound as it traverses the phases of Aboriginal history, The 7 Stages of Grieving is an invitation to face hard truths, to join hands and grieve. It shares true and personal stories that need to keep being told. And perhaps most importantly, it opens a dialogue about the issues that separate and unite Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

The production tells the stories of seven different aspects of grief; encompassing family funerals, black displacement, the impact of European wars and other stories. The design elements are based on the environment of Chenoa’s youth: the rainbow coloured sands, the tropical rainforest, and the artworks of the local people.

Tickets  are $20 to  $45 and can be booked on 3829 8131 or visiting www.rpac.com.au (booking fees are $4.10 per transaction by phone and $3 per ticket online).

The 7 Stages of Grieving is a Queensland Theatre and Grin and Tonic Theatre Troupe Production presented by Redland Performing Arts Centre for the Quandamooka festival.
