Trish Lawrence, a NSW Seniors Card member is a retired school teacher. Her recent students have read the books and have loved all the action and have heavily identified  with the main character.  Dogga is the kid that we want to be, want to be friends with, or want to “go” with. These captivating books will empower children  to make the right choices, with compassion and understanding. They will crack open children’s hearts and touch countless others even people who have never surfed can get caught up in the action.  These books teach a philosophy that is for life.  Children these days feel helpless in the face of global issues.  These books can help make children strong, confident and empathetic.  They can help teach them  to make a difference.

The series of Dogga books revolves  around a charismatic boy who grows up in a coastal town of NSW and loves to surf with his mates. The series is aimed at children from 8-15 with a target age of 9-11. Surf Turf; has plenty of action, which children love.  There is a moral dilemma and ultimate message through the book.  Is it enough to just surf with your mates and have fun?  Or should you put yourself out there and care for other people  and the planet we live on.  The illustrations in this book are outstanding, resemble photos and enhance our understanding of the characters.
Dogga Surfing Cowboy;  Dogga is the cool main character and has cruised along in life pretty well.  However, in this book he has to face the difficulties of moving away from his safe haven, including the surf, when his parents move for work.  He is the new kid at school and looks at life from a different angle.  There is plenty of action, both surfing and horseriding.
Dogga Hangs In; This book illustrates the growth in Dogga’s philosophy of life.  He comes up against bullying - of his sister and others.  We live through it all with him and the children learn strategies to cope.  There is again plenty of action , with surfing, kayaking, tennis as well as current issues facing kids of that age.  Through Dogga's fears and philosophies on life we learn about the good qualties of friendship.
Love Is Eternal;  in which the hero’s Dad dies.  Children are given structure and comfort in dealing with this issue but all the while there is action aplenty.
