AT DAWN on September 26, 1943, a series of explosions in Singapore harbour sunk or damaged seven Japanese merchant ships.

At the same time, six British and Australian commandos frantically paddled their canoes back to an island base across Singapore Strait.

The raid was Operation Jaywick, an audacious plan devised by an Englishman, Major Ivan Lyon, to penetrate the harbour defences and damage enemy shipping and prestige in South-East Asia.

MV Krait had dropped the raiding party off at an uninhabited island. Then, in collapsible canoes jammed with limpet mines, the men paddled 50 miles to a forward base before leaving for Singapore harbour.

This amazing story is told in the DVD The Heroes: Operation Jaywick.

We have one DVD to give away.

For your chance to win, tell us in 25 words or less who your hero is.
