Pro Hart Outback Art Prize Home Explore Pro Hart Outback Art Prize 2018 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize Image of Pro Hart in his Workshop The Pro Hart Outback Art Prize is an annual acquisitive competition. The prize showcases work in any media which reflects the spirit and diversity of the Australian Outback. The prize consists of an Acquisitive First Prize, a Non-Acquisitive Second Prize, a Non-Acquisitive Encouragement Award and a Peoples Choice Award with a total prize pool of $19,000. The winning work will be added to the nationally recognised collection of the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery. The Pro Hart Outback Art Prize was renamed in acknowledgement of his and his family’s contribution to the arts and support of Broken Hill. The prize is generously supported by Mrs Raylee J Hart and Broken Hill City Council. IMPORTANT DATES Entries open | 2 April 2018 Entries close | Midnight, 15 June 2018 Finalist notification | 22 June 2018 Artworks delivered | 25 June - 27 July 2018 Exhibition opening | 6pm, Friday 3 August 2018 Exhibition dates | 3 August - 23 September 2018 Collection of artworks | from 24 September 2018 Terms and Conditions All entries should: Address the theme of the ‘Australian Outback’. All entries must be original work completed within the last 12 months. A non-refundable entry fee of $35 (inc GST) per artwork applies. Each artist may enter 2 works only. Entries must submit an artist statement no longer than 50 words. Artists must submit a short CV. Entrants may supply up to 2 still images or a media file (up to 15MB). Images and media should be of a high quality. Forms and payment should preferably be submitted online via brokenhill.nsw.gov.au. SELECTION OF WORK The 2018 Pro Hart Outback Prize exhibition will constitute a shortlist of works selected from all of the entries. The shortlist of works for the exhibition will be made by a selection committee. No correspondence will be entered after the selection process. FINAL JUDGING All aspects of the judging process are final and no discussion will be entered into. The winners of the categories will be announced on the opening night. In their absence notification will be mailed via registered post within 3 business days. SUBMISSION OF WORKS SELECTED FOR EXHIBITION Artworks selected for the shortlist exhibition are to arrive at the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery between 25 June and 27 July 2018, between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Artworks are to be addressed to the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery, 404-408 Argent Street, Broken Hill NSW 2880. All works must be available for display for the duration of the exhibition (3 August – 23 September 2018). Transportation costs and arrangements to and from the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery are the sole responsibility of the artist. Please ensure that entries are adequately packaged to prevent damage. Artists should use strong packing material and ensure that the artworks are insured for transit and exhibition purposes. SALE OF WORK All works must be for sale. A 33% commission applies to the sales of all artworks and must be included in the price (GST inclusive). PRESENTATION Finalists should have artworks delivered ready to display with D rings attached. 10cm from the top for larger works and 5cm from the top for smaller works. Works on paper should arrive professionally framed and ready to hang. Plinths are available for 3 dimensional works. Instructions for how the artwork is to be displayed must be supplied. Where appropriated, all works should be clearly labelled with the artist’s name, address, title of work and sale price on the back of the artwork. The Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery reserves the right to not display artworks that do not arrive with the aforementioned specifications. SIZE LIMITATIONS There are no size limitations for the Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, aside from the physical limits of the Gallery. However, artists may like to consider the cost of transporting works if selected. Please contact the Gallery if you have concerns regarding the size of your work. RETURN OF WORK Collection of artwork/s is the responsibility of individual artists. COPYRIGHT By entering work/s into the Pro Hart Outback Art Prize does not transfer from the artist the ownership of, or copyright in, any of the work they produce. However, the artist agrees that the work may be photographed or reproduced for Broken Hill City Council records or critical review, publicity, catalogues, archives and/reports, condition reports and other purposes as mutually agreed. DISCLAIMER Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery will exercise all due care in exhibiting and handling entries, however accepts no liability for any loss or damage incurred to works whilst in transit or in the custody of the Gallery. Selected artists should make arrangements to adequately insure their work whilst in transit to and from the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery. On payment of the acquisitive prize, the winning work will become the absolute property of the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery. By completing the entry form and making the work available the entrant warrants that the work is the sole and unencumbered property of the entrant and that there is no inhibition or restriction upon title passing to the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery in the event that the work is the winning entry. Exhibition of works shall be a the absolute discretion of the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery which may take into account the recommendation of the judge’s selection or the Art Gallery’s decision.
