Wollongong Writers Festival Short Story Prize 2018
 

First Prize $1000 Highly Commended $300
 

Theme: FEEDING TIME
Word limit: 2500 words
Closing date: 15 October 2018
 

The Wollongong Writers Festival Short Story Prize will be awarded for a previously unpublished story of up to 2500 words on the theme ‘Feeding Time’. The winning entry will receive $1000 and publication in Mascara Literary Review.

The theme can be interpreted as broadly and playfully as you like. Feel free to experiment with form and content, but please keep submissions within the word count. Entry fee is $15. The winner of the Wollongong Writers Festival Short Story Prize will receive $1000, a Highly Commended story will receive $300 and both entries will be published in Mascara Literary Review. The Wollongong Writers Festival Short Story Prize will close for entries at midnight (AEST) on 15 October 2018.

This competition is open to everyone except Wollongong Writers Festival staff, board members, and advisers. Festival volunteers may enter. This is an international competition and writers located outside Australia are encouraged to enter. Please ensure that you read the Terms and Conditions of the Wollongong Writers Festival Short Story Prize before entering.

Your story should be attached as a Word document or PDF. Please ensure that your name and identifying details do not appear on the manuscript itself. By entering the competition, you are agreeing to comply with the Terms and Conditions of the Wollongong Writers Festival Short Story Prize.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Entry is open to writers of all ages and locations, excepting those employed by Wollongong Writers Festival, as Festival advisers, or board members. Volunteers are permitted to enter. Stories must be written in English
Entry fee is $15.00 for each story.
There is no limit to the number of entries per person but entries must be submitted separately, even if the combined word count is less than or equal to 2500 words.
Entries will be judged anonymously. The author’s name must not appear on the manuscript.
The judge’s decisions will be final. No correspondence will be entered in to.
Entries are to be no more than 2500 words (exclusive of the title).
Previously published or awarded work will not be accepted.
Submissions under consideration by another competition or publication will be accepted, but Wollongong Writers Festival must be notified immediately if the work is accepted elsewhere.
By entering this competition, writers grant Wollongong Writers Festival and Mascara Literary Review limited, fee-free, licence to publish their work until after 15 August 2019
The closing date is 15 October, 2018. Entries will be accepted up until midnight AEST. Late entries will not be accepted.
Results will be announced by November 23, 2018.
Work should submitted in 12 point font with minimum 1.5 spacing.
