Buddy Holly with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: True Love Ways is orchestrated with Holly’s voice to realise “what Buddy woulda wanted done”, according to his brother Larry. Holly tragically died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959, at the age of 22, leaving behind his wife of less than a year, Maria Elena. That day became known as The Day the Music Died, famously referred to in Don McLean’s song American Pie. Holly’s final recordings in a Decca studio included the track True Love Ways, dedicated to his wife, who is the album’s executive producer.
