Goodbye Porpoise Spit, and hello Muriel’s Wedding. The beloved Australian film recounts the tale of Muriel Heslop’s fun and folly in chasing her dream to get married. The musical adaptation has won five Helpmann Awards, seven Sydney Theatre Awards and an Awgie Award — and will be on stage at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre this month. Leading the cast is Natalie Abbott playing the much-loved lead role of Muriel Heslop, while Queenslander Stefanie Jones plays Muriel’s best friend Rhonda. Muriel’s Wedding the Musical is a theatrical version of PJ Hogan’s iconic hit film, updated to today by the writer himself with music and lyrics by Australian award winning songwriters Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall with additional songs by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, and Stig Anderson written for ABBA. Quest Community News has 19 A-reserve double passes to giveaway for the performance on October 2 at 7:30pm.
