Win a double pass to the Honeyland and Aelita: Queen of Mars experiences at Brisbane International Film Festival 2019 presented by GOMA.

Qualified film fanatics, are you ready to immerse yourself in the world of cinema? Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) is back and it’s set to bring a huge roster of inspiring entertainment to QAGOMA. Held across 11 action-packed days, with more than 300 hours of films and events, the festival will play host to some seriously exciting premieres and special events you won’t want to miss. Audiences will be treated to titles such as Pedro Almodóvar’s Pain and Glory (the film that nabbed Antonio Banderas a Cannes Best Actor award), Joanna Hogg’s mother-daughter drama The Souvenir, plus another Queensland premiere in the form of Jim Jarmusch’s star-studded zombie flick The Dead Don’t Die.

To celebrate the return of this world-class festival, we’re giving one lucky reader the chance to attend two exclusive and intriguing premier events. Be treated to a sumptuous, honey-themed dining experience that takes inspiration from the engrossing BIFF documentary Honeyland, a film that follows the extraordinary journey of Europe’s last female beekeeper. Executive Chef Doug Innes-Will has crafted a one-time-only menu – to be revealed on the night at the award-winning GOMA Restaurant – which utilises the neighbourhood honey of producer Bee One Third in combination with incredible local produce. As part of the experience, Jack Stone of Bee One Third will discuss urban beekeeping as Doug reveals each course. This experience is sure to enhance the depth to your viewing of the night’s film, which picked up the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2019.

The next night, ARIA Award-nominated beatboxer Tom Thum brings his uncanny talent to perform a new score to the first Soviet science fiction film Aelita: Queen of Mars (1924). Joining Tom Thum is none other than world-renowned Australian percussionist Ben Walsh and his beatbox symphony musical partner, conductor and composer Gordon Hamilton. What’s better than seeing a classic film return to the big screen? A live soundtrack, that’s what.

The Weekend Edition is giving you the chance to win one double pass to the BIFF Food and Film: Honeyland experience on Thursday, October 10 and to the BIFF Live Music and Film: Aelita: Queen of Mars experience on Friday October 11 – with a total prize value of $300.
