In the mood for something tasty? We've got 2 bottles to giveaway and both are something very special.

1st Prize: Bushmills Acacia Wood Distillery Exclusive is a limited edition single malt whiskey uniquely finished in acacia wood for over a year. Initial maturation was done in bourbon barrels and sherry casks. Non-chill filtered and coming in at a strength of 47% ABV, a total of 12,000 bottles were made available beginning in late 2018.

2nd Prize: Bushmills Distillery Reserve 12 Year is a triple-distilled single malt Irish whiskey matured mainly in casks that previously aged Spanish Oloroso sherry. Bottled at 40%.

Our friends over at Bushmills have kindly sponsored these two bottles of Bushmills Acacia Wood (Distillery Exclusive) & Bushmills 12 year Old for your chance to win.

Bushmills Acacia Wood (Distillery Exclusive) Tasting Notes

Colour: Light Copper

Nose: The traditional Bushmills notes of peach, apricot and melon but all amplified with a little banana thrown in too. Then it becomes a little green and leafy with cut grass and some herbaceous notes. Sherry notes start to pick their way forward, cream, almonds, milk chocolate & beeswax. Dried fruits first: raisins, sultanas and the likes, with some underlying vanilla. But there’s a massive floral sweetness, jasmine, honeysuckle, honey, that harmonises the bass Bushmills spirit.

Palette: Much more oily in the glass, especially compared to the regular Bushmills 10 year old. A medium mouthfeel on arrival. Honey, vanilla, malt which then becomes more sherry forward – sherry soaked raisins, almonds and then a wave of xxxly spice. Cinnamon and nutmeg very apparent. A shortish finish where chocolate develops with citrus oils, orange moving to tangy lemon. Water makes it a bit more winey, more chocolate, wild honey and a healthy amount of warming baking spice and angostura bitters.

Bushmills Distillery Reserve 12 Year Tasting Notes

Colour: Amber

Nose: Very very fruity. Peaches, bananas, mango straight off the bat. These then give way to the sherry influence with marzipan, raisins, malt and a hint of allspice.

Palette: It has a light, delicate mouthfeel. Very honeyed with cloves initially, like a cold ‘hot toddy’ then the fruit makes its appearance, caramelised banana, Seville orange zest, sweet malt with clove spice running throughout before notes of chocolate, raisins and star anise come to the fore. The finish is medium, remaining sweet although with a touch of spicy European oak.

About Bushmills Distillery

Bushmills is home to the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery. Official records stretch back to 1608, when the area was granted its license to distil. Over 400 years later, whiskey is still being made in Bushmills, thanks to experience and craft passed down from generation to generation.

SMOOTH TASTE FROM 100% MALT BARLEY
The Old Bushmills Distillery is one of the few distilleries in Ireland to use 100% malt barley to handcraft triple-distilled whiskey, which creates the smooth taste that is our house style.

SMALL BATCH, HAND CRAFTED
The Old Bushmills Distillery is committed to small batch blending. We use just 10 copper pot stills to produce limited batches each and every time.

TRADITIONAL METHODS
Bushmills Irish Whiskey is made by the hands of the close Bushmills community and has been for centuries – the secrets of whiskey making have been passed from generation to generation.

GRAIN TO GLASS
The distillery is ‘grain-to-glass’, meaning that every part of the process is crafted on site, from the mashing through to distillation and bottling, and overseen by our Master Distiller, Colum Egan, and our Master Blender, Helen Mulholland.
