After a brief pandemic-induced hiatus last year, our city’s premier celebration of all things LGBTIQ+ has made a COVID-safe comeback that is packed with dazzling events, jaw-dropping performances and thought-provoking conversations. Entering its sixth year, the festival has come home to roost at Brisbane Powerhouse for 11 days of solid-gold action, bringing with it a program that encompasses the best of queer culture – from the vocal stylings of stunning sirens in Killer Queens and the ever-so-cheeky boylesque fantasy of Showguys, through to the gritty guts of internationally acclaimed Truth to Power Cafe and the historical gay chaos of Violet-Crowned. To celebrate the return of the most colourful event on Brisbane’s cultural calendar, we’ve joined forces with Brisbane Powerhouse to bring one winner and their three best Judies an unforgettable MELT experience. The evening will start with tickets to see the inimitable Reuben Kaye’s new show, The Butch is Back – and if you’re not familiar with his particular style of cabaret comedy, allow us to fill you in. He’s fast, funny and an absolute beauty to boot (always serving looks), gracing audiences with a jam-packed show loaded with laughs, gasps and his trademark razor-sharp wit. A night out at MELT wouldn’t be complete without a little somethin’ to sip on, so you’ll also score a tidy $100 to spend at Bar Alto on some pre- or post-show tipples. The Weekend Edition has teamed up with the fabulous folk at Brisbane Powerhouse to give one lucky reader and three guests a night out at MELT: Festival of Queer Arts and Culture.
