As the weather cools down, Rockhampton Regional Council is encouraging residents to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful parks across the region during World Parks Week.

24 April kicks off World Parks Week, and to celebrate, Council is giving one lucky park-goer a chance to meet the meerkats.

Parks Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford says the theme for this year is #Hyperlocal, and focuses on how people like to use their public spaces, and what their parks mean to them.

“Last month we launched a survey to get some community feedback on some of the smaller community parks across our region and from the responses so far, we know that people feel strongly about these spaces,” Cr Rutherford said.

“We want you to share your park experiences with us and tell us what your park means to you.

“The opportunity to meet our cheeky meerkats up close and personal is one not to be missed - all you need to do is complete the survey and register to enter the draw.

“Don’t worry, if you have already filled in the survey, you can still enter by registering in the draw.

“Our parks are so important to our way of life and we are fortunate to have such a wide range to choose from.

“While it is no secret that the likes of the Botanic Gardens, Fraser Park and Kershaw Gardens are truly magnificent and important assets for our region, equally as important, are the little local parks dotted around our communities.

“Completing the survey and joining in this competition will not only help us understand how residents use and feel about our community parks – but give one lucky winner the chance of a lifetime!”

To be eligible you must enter during World Parks Week. Competition opens Friday 23 April and the winner will be notified and published on our website by close of business 4 May 2021.
