Travellers will fall in love with Vietnam's distinct and energetic character on a 12-day Vietnam at a Glance tour with Wendy Wu Tours.
From bustling Saigon in the south to Hanoi in the north, this group tour explores the country's turbulent past, and gives you the opportunity to meet the friendly, resilient locals, and get lost in spectacular panoramas.
The highlights read like a list of Vietnam's must-dos - Saigon, Hue, Hanoi and Halong Bay - with authentic experiences, many exclusive to Wendy Wu, thrown in to complete the package.
The tour kicks off in Saigon, where past and present blend in the country's largest city.
On Day 2, travellers confront the reality of guerrilla warfare at the Cu Chi Tunnels outside Saigon. The cramped tunnels were central to some of the Vietnam War's strategic operations, including the 1968 Tet Offensive. While confronting, the tunnels also offer a fascinating window into the hardships of war.
Later that day there's time to explore modern day Saigon with its heady mix of local culture and colonial influences, visiting the Central Post Office, the Reunification Palace and the chilling War Remnants Museum.

Recognised as Vietnam's food bowl, the Mekong Delta gives the opportunity to witness the daily life of locals. Travellers will move around by motorised wooden boats between islands, changing to smaller paddle boats in the canals. Lunch at a local restaurant offers the chance to sample the delta's culinary specialities.
Next up is a flight to Danang and transfer to Hoi An, which retains the feel of centuries past.
Then it's time for the first Authentic Experience of the tour - Tra Que Village, a community farming project just outside Hoi An. Visitors can learn the traditional methods used to plant, fertilise and harvest crops and then give it a go, raking the ground and sowing seeds.
A four-hour journey over the scenic Hai Van Pass arrives in Hue, the epitome of Vietnam's dynamic past. There are visits to the Royal Tomb of Minh Mang, which comprises of almost 40 monuments surrounded by gardens and pools; and the Imperial Citadel and the Forbidden Purple City. The day winds up with a cruise on the Perfume River.
Final stop on the tour is the bustling capital Hanoi.
Travellers can explore the vibrant streets of its Old Quarter by cyclo, stopping off at a cafe to sample the traditionally made local specialty, egg coffee.
Another Authentic Experience is the Quintessence of Tonkin, an outdoor spectacular showcasing the rich culture and daily life of Vietnam's northern river delta through performers, water puppetry and lights.
