Over the years of working closely with the music industry, Cream has come across a lot of rock stars. From Lou Reed to Dave Grohl to Nick Cave, we’ve interviewed the best of ’em. And as for catching bands live, we’ve had the pleasure of being bombasted by everyone from Kiss to Marilyn Manson, Coldplay to Muse. But, oh, how we wish we’d had a camera with us each and every time to capture the moments, just like famed photographer Tony Mott has done.
Hundreds of Mott’s photographs appear in the fabulous new Rock’n’Roll Diary 2013, along with stacks of information about a motley crew of rock singers and the band members that help drag them through the blood, sweat and tears.
There are also some fascinating factoids to be found throughout: like who’d have known so many rock stars have died from accidents with equipment on stage (egs: Keith Relf of the Yardbirds electrocuted by a guitar; Leslie Harvey of Stone The Crows zapped by a live microphone).
There are also zodiac lists of celebrity starsigns that spookily reveal similarities in character traits of rockers under particular signs of the zodiac. The Cure’s Robert Smith along with Ace Frehley of Kiss, Daniel Johns of Silverchair, and Iggy Pop, are all Taureans – and they all happen to dabble with makeup or at least love to slap on the eyeliner.
If you’re going to invest in one diary for next year, make this the one. It’ll make you wiser than the next best rock journo.
