Short Story Competition

Without wishing to get over confident, the crowdsourcing thing we’re doing seems to be going pretty well so far. I’m quietly confident that we will be going ahead with the summer reading edition of The King’s Tribune.

So, we’ll kick off with a short story competition. We’ve not done much in the way of publishing fiction thus far, but the summer reading issue is a perfect place to start. We’ll have a couple of commissioned pieces from professional writers, but we’d like to give a space to an as yet undiscovered writer.

Guidelines:

We’re not limiting it to completely unpublished writers, but this is intended to showcase new writers so, professionals, send us your pitch and leave this ground open for the newbies.

Word limit is 2,500– 4,000 words

The topic is wide open, choose anything that takes your fancy. Sci-fi, romance, westerns, space odysseys, urban or any of the other genres I can’t think of at the moment.

Judges will be the Tribune editorial team. The winning entry will be the one that we like the most. The Tribune is not a literary journal, we’re not looking for the worthiest story, we’re looking for the most interesting, though-provoking, amusing or unexpected entry.

We will not be able to provide feedback on all the submissions – sorry but our time is very limited and we need to focus it all on getting the magazine out.

We will pay the winning entry $250 to publish their story.

Obviously, stories that have already been published elsewhere will not be eligible.

Format: MS Word is the preferred format, but we can accept txt files if necessary. PDFs can be included if you need a particular layout you want to demonstrate, but please include a text file as well.
All entries should be sent to editors@kingstribune.com

Closing date for submissions is 30th November, 2012.

Remember, we don’t want worthy. We’re not looking for the next Patrick White, we’re looking for the next John Birmingham.
