From writer-director Max Minghella — his second feature, from the acclaimed actor who earned an Emmy nomination for The Handmaid’s Tale alongside Moss — Shell blends surgical satire with sharp, celebrity-ageing anxieties. Struggling actress Samantha (Moss) lands a free trial at Shell, a glossy health-and-beauty juggernaut promising to keep clients “camera-ready” forever. Confidence spikes. Bookings roll in. And a sleek friendship forms with Shell’s ultra-glam CEO Zoe Shannon (Hudson), a woman who seems to have perfected both her image and her empire.
Then the shine curdles. Former Shell patients begin to vanish — including influencer Chloe Benson (Kaia Gerber) — and Samantha’s upgraded life starts to feel like a trap with immaculate lighting. The treatments work… perhaps a little too well. As whispers turn to warnings, Samantha has to decide what she’s willing to trade for permanence — and what might already be gone.
