For most people, ice only comes in cubes and isn't worth worrying about until it's melted in their glass. National Geographic photographer James Balog sees things a little differently.
Motivated by the radical changes around the glaciers of Iceland, the Academy Award nominee went on a three-year mission, armed with 25 cameras, which he dispatched across various locations, to document exactly what's happening to the largest deposits of ice on the planet.
By placing super delicate equipment into the harshest environments on earth, not to mention consistently risking his own life to get the shot, Balog has created something that's beautiful and terrifying at the same time in Chasing Ice.
