Alan Marshall Short Story Award

The Alan Marshall Short Story Award (AMSSA), founded in 1985, is presented by Nillumbik Shire Council in partnership with Yarra Plenty Regional Library.

Alan Marshall AM OBE HON LLD (1902-1984) is one of Australia's most famous authors. His most well-known books are I Can Jump Puddles and This is the Grass. In 1920, Alan started his first job as a junior clerk at the Eltham Shire Offices in Kangaroo Ground. He lived in Research in the 1940s and moved to Eltham in 1955 where he lived for almost 20 years.

Entries open 1 February 2017 and close 5pm, 31 March 2017

Open Category

$2,000 + mentoring through Australian Society of Authors (ASA) and a 12-month ASA membership. Open to writers who reside in Australia. $20 entry fee.

Local Category

$700 + mentoring through Writers Victoria (WV) and a 12-month WV membership. Open to writers who live, work or study in the Shire of Nillumbik. There is no entry fee for the local category.

Length

Stories up to 2,500 words

Judge

Bruce Pascoe is a Bunurong, Tasmanian and Yuin man. An award-wining Australian writer, editor and anthologist he has written 33 books published nationally and internationally.

Wining stories will be included in the Literary Nillumbik Anthology 2017.
