Something electric is heading to Lizottes next month.
After a hugely successful show last year, the charming and cheeky Newcastle trio Love That Hat is reviving what they said would be a one-off performance of their take on the Electric Light Orchestra’s biggest hits.
Love That Hat Plays The Electric Light Orchestra show will return to Lizottes in July.
Love That Hat was formed by Mikey Stove, Sue Carson and Dave Carter in 1994.
The prime motivation for starting the band was to challenge themselves and Novocastrian listeners with rare repertoire by artists such as Kate Bush, Deep Purple and ELO.
Affectionately known as “The Hat”, the trio has survived 20 years of gigs at pubs, clubs, weddings and parties.
After all that time the three ELO songs in their set list are still highly regarded and often requested by their audiences, which has prompted many an informal discussion about putting together a show featuring only the music of ELO.
The trio turned the discussion into reality last year, to rave reviews.
Now, The Hat is bringing the show back to Lizottes.
The show celebrates the spirit, virtuosity, beauty and flare of the music of ELO and Jeff Lynne.
The show will include a 10 piece ensemble featuring Jason Tyler (keyboards), Pete Lydiard (drums), Kate White and Bob Corbett (guest vocals), and string section Chin-Hwi Ang, Jamie Pollock and Naomi Smith.
Love That Hat Plays The Electric Light Orchestra shows will be held at 8.30pm on Saturday, July 1 and 1.30pm on Sunday, July 2.
Tickets, available by calling Lizottes or online through their website, cost $45 per person for just the show, or $87 for premium seating which includes a mean and the show.
The Examiner has one double pass (two tickets for just the show, no meal) into the Sunday, July 2 lunchtime show.
To win the pass, send your name and daytime contact number in an email titled “The Hat” to
portstephens@fairfaxmedia.com.au.
The winner will be notified by noon on June 29.
