Seniors Card
Through the Lens: Seniors Card photographic competition and exhibition

Through the Lens is part of International Day of Older Persons celebrations. It is open to all South Australian Seniors Card members from 1 July to 25 August 2017.

The competition and exhibition promote active ageing by celebrating the skills of older South Australians through the art of photography and demonstrates that people can learn and create at any age.

Photos of various subject matters are encouraged. Think lifestyle, volunteers, lifelong learning, sport, family, arts and culture, leisure, multiculturalism and vibrant South Australia. Use your creativity!

Entries must include an image title (no more than 100 characters) and a brief description of the photography (no more than 500 characters). There is a limit of five entries per person.

Finalists and winners will be chosen in six categories:

Seniors in action
Nature
Artistic photography
Portrait
People's Choice (voted by the public)
Thanks to the major sponsor, Atkins Photo Lab, winners and finalists will win a large ready-to-hang framed print of their photo.

The overall winner will receive a custom Jam Factory award and their photo will appear on the cover of the 2018 Seniors Card Discount Directory, Your Lifestyle Guide, available to more than 360,000 people from December 2017.

The winner of the People's Choice vote will win an iPad.

Exhibition

An exhibition of the shortlisted photos will be held at the City Library in Rundle Mall throughout October. Minister for Ageing, Zoe Bettison will launch the exhibition at an event on Wednesday 4 October 2017 where the winners in each category will be announced. The exhibition will be open to the public until Sunday 5 November 2017.


Through the Lens – 2017 Seniors Card photo competition and exhibition
1. The Seniors Card photo competition is open to valid South Australian Seniors Card members.
2. All information detailing how to enter forms part of these terms and conditions. Submission of an
entry will be taken to mean acceptance of these terms and conditions.
3. Entries of a photograph no more than 3MB must include the entrant's name (including preferred
name), title, Seniors Card number, email address and telephone number, and also an image title
and brief description (refer to point 8 below for further information). All entries must be received by
25 August 2017 and there is a limit of five entries per person. If more than five entries are received,
only the first five entries will be eligible. Seniors Card members are encouraged to use the online
submission tool, available on the Seniors Card website (www.sa.gov.au/seniorscard/photo). In
addition to the online submission method, entrants can submit their entries by posting their entry on
a USB or disc to PO Box 196, Rundle Mall Adelaide 5000. Please note, hard copy photographs will
not be accepted.
4. Up to six winners in up to six categories will be chosen by the judging panel for public display at the
Seniors Card photo exhibition at the City Library, Rundle Mall during October 2017. Finalists and
winning entrants may be asked to resubmit entries for printing purposes (a higher quality image may
be required). Winners will be announced at a launch event on Wednesday 4 October 2017. One
overall winner will be chosen and announced at the event. Other entrants may be invited to attend
the event.
5. The judging panel will comprise representatives of the Office for the Ageing, sponsors and other
invited judges. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence shall be entered into. The
judges reserve the right to redirect into another category if deemed more appropriate. The judges
reserve the right to select additional finalists and/or winners outside of the set categories.
6. Each entrant agrees that their entry may be subject to a people’s choice vote, whereby people can
view all eligible entries via an online gallery and then vote for their favourite image.
7. Winners and finalists will take home a large ready-to-hang print of their photo. In addition, the
overall winning entry, including the entrant’s name, will be published on the front cover of the 2018
edition of the Seniors Card Discount Directory, Your Lifestyle Guide, which will be available to over
365,000 Seniors Card members from December 2017 until December 2018.
8. To participate in this photo competition, entrants must submit an image file with an image title (no
more than 100 characters) and a brief description of the photograph (no more than 500 characters).
Photos should be of suitable quality and resolution for print publication. Each entrant assures the
Office for the Ageing that: (a) all entered photographs are the work of the individual submitting them
(b) they are the owner of the photograph and description; (c) the entrant has the permission of the
people shown in the entered photograph to include them in the photograph and that they have no
objections to the photograph being published or used in any medium for any purpose; and (d)
entering the photograph and description into this competition on the basis that the photographs may
then be published or used for any other purpose, will not breach any person's rights (including
copyright or moral rights).
9. Each entrant agrees that their name and the photos entered into the competition may be
reproduced, published, transmitted or otherwise communicated to the public in association with the
further use and reproduction of the photographs.
10. Entries must be the work of the individual submitting them (must be a current South Australian
Seniors Card member). At the time of submitting their entry, entrants will be asked to confirm that
they took the photo. In addition to this, entries must not have been published elsewhere or have
won a prize in any other competition, or have been submitted to any competitor or any other entity
for publication and will not be so submitted or published at any time before the expiry of 12 months
after the end of the competition period without the written approval of the Office for the Ageing. It is
the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that no element of their entry or its publication as
contemplated by these terms infringes the copyright of any third party or any laws. Entries will be
judged on which are the most original, interesting and appropriate for publications and exhibition.
11. Copyright in all submissions to the competition remains with the respective entrants. However, each
entrant agrees to allow publication of any or all entries in any Office for the Ageing publication, its
websites and/or in any promotional, marketing or advertising material.
12. Should the submitted images be used in any future Office for the Ageing publications, the name of
the person submitting it will be acknowledged in the publication.
13. Illegible, incomplete or defaced entries (including entries with a vignette border) will not be
accepted. No responsibility can be accepted for lost entries and proof of sending will not be
accepted as proof of receipt. Entries must not be sent through agencies or third parties.
14. All entries may be used in the 2018 edition of the Seniors Card Discount Directory or any other
publication produced or funded by the Office for the Ageing, at any time.
15. All entrants release the Office for the Ageing from any and all causes of action, losses, liability,
damage, expense (including legal expenses) cost or charge suffered, sustained or in any way
incurred by the winner as a result of any loss or damage to any physical property of the winner, or
any injury to or death of any person arising out of, or related to, or in any way connected with the
competition.
