WIN TICKETS: Bridie returns to RPAC

Competitions
BRIDIE: David Bridie joins the Cleveland Contemporary Music Event (CCME) at Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) on November 11.

David Bridie makes another guest appearance as part of the Cleveland Contemporary Music Event (CCME) at Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) at 7pm on Saturday, November 11. Delivering a program of handpicked songs from his vast catalogue of his 30-year career in music,  Bridie takes his audience on a sonic adventure.

Featuring tracks spanning his prolific career, along with a sneak preview of new recordings from his forthcoming album due to be released next year, this is sure to be a sublime musical concert experience.

Bridie has enjoyed a remarkably versatile career as one of Australia’s most innovative contemporary musicians. David rose to prominence in 1983 as a uniquely Australian pianist, vocalist and songwriter in the critically acclaimed band Not Drowning, Waving.

A decade and nine albums later, David formed the ARIA award-winning musical outfit, My Friend the Chocolate Cake. Bridie has also enjoyed a venerable solo career, having released five studio albums including Act of Free Choice and 2013’s Wake. Not one to be categorised, David has firmly established himself over the last 30 years as a producer, musical theatre director and composer; having scored the soundtracks for more than 100 international and Australian films, television series and documentaries.

Impressively, this year Bridie developed the aBit na Ta film and audio installation alongside renowned PNG musician and long-time collaborator George Telek. Commissioned especially for the No. 1 Neighbour: Art in Papua New Guinea 1966 - 2016 exhibit at QAGOMA, the project engages with the enormous changes that have washed over Blanche Bay, Rabaul in the century 1875-1975 from the perspective of the Tolai peoples who inhabit East New Britain Province, PNG. The CD soundtrack to the installation aBit na Ta, features tracks freshly written specifically for the project by  Bridie and Telek, as well as historic recordings and samples of music from the rising stars of PNG. a Bit na Ta is now available via Wantok Musik.

Bridie’s performance is part of the CCME, which is a unique opportunity to hear the best new music in Australia. There will also be the chance to see ELISION, Topology and The Kransky Sisters, Kupka’s Piano and Lawrence English as part of this celebration in sound.

Tickets to David Bridie in Concert are $20 - $45, or you can buy tickets to three or more CCME concerts for $35 each. For bookings and further information visit rpac.com.au or phone 3829 8131 (booking fees are $4.10 by phone and $5 online per transaction).

WIN: Redland City Bulletin has one double pass (value $90) to give away. To be in the draw to win, enter your details below by 9am on Monday, November 6. Conditions may apply. Winners will be contacted by a representative from RPAC and their names announced online.
