“When it comes right down to it, the most important thing that gardens can do is to connect us with the great outdoors, and with the gentle, humbling, and sometimes awe-inspiring forces of nature which remain, happily, way outside of our control,” he says.
“And what is more engaging in your garden than a pool or a water feature? Pools get us actively engaged, and have us forever checking the fine details of the weather. With water features, it may be more passive engagement, but they really activate the senses, and can attract birds as well as all sorts of invertebrate life, providing a constant source of interest while maximising biodiversity.”
The DVD of his television series is out now, with each episode celebrates the lengths that people are prepared to go, both financially and emotionally, to get their ultimate garden, following owners as they battle weather, shifting design visions and budget blowouts.
