HELP US PRESERVE NELCEBEE FOR ANOTHER 135 YEARS
Nelcebee is the great survivor. It was launched in Port Adelaide in 1883 and worked the southern coast for 99 years, longer than any other ship.

It holds a history of shipping in its riveted-iron hull: it has worked as a tug, coastal steamer, auxiliary ketch and motor trader. For much of its life it was part of the Mosquito Fleet of ketches and schooners that linked city and country. When Nellie retired in 1983 it was the third oldest vessel in the world on Lloyd’s Register of Shipping. Today, it is the only 19th century steamship in Australia.

You can help us save Nellie by purchasing a ticket to go in the draw to win one of seven prizes. First prize is the beautiful framed artwork of Nelcebee by local Marine Artist John Ford, value $1500. Second prize is a Port River cruise for 8 people on-board Archie Badenoch hosted by a Museum Curator, value $300. Third to seventh place winners receive a 12 Month Family Membership to the South Australian Maritime Museum valued at $55 each, with a total value of $275.

John Ford is a renowned marine artist whose artwork displays the subtle hues and intricate detail of the water colour style. While his works are substantially based on maritime themes, his portfolio also includes historical buildings, steam locomotives, military subjects and animals. With numerous exhibitions and art wards to his credit, John is one of South Australia’s leading artists. John’s work has been commissioned for many Australian and International, private and corporate collections.

Tickets are $5 each and all proceeds go to the Nelcebee restoration project.

The lottery will be drawn at 10am on Saturday 23 June 2018, the 135th anniversary of Nelcebee’s launch in Port Adelaide.

Results will be published in the Advertiser on Friday 29 June 2018.

If you would like to make a donation to help us preserve Nelcebee, please visit the Saving Nellie website http://savenelcebee.com.au/ or phone 8207 6255. All donations of $2 and over are tax deductible and 100% of the proceeds go to the restoration and preservation of Nelcebee.
