To help prepare children for a hospital visit, The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation in Brisbane has released a series of free workbooks and a DVD, entitled My Trip to Hospital. The idea of My Trip to Hospital is to familiarise kids with the hospital environment and procedures they may undergo, to alleviate the stress and fear associated with going to hospital
Written in age-appropriate language, the story line works through all the things that might happen in hospital - packing the bag, putting on the wristband, seeing the doctors in their surgical robes. While the books are aimed at a planned stay, they are a highly recommended as a 'just in case' read, or to help a child understand what is happening to a sibling. Titles are suitable for age groups from 3 years to 12 plus.
The workbooks and DVD are available for free download from the website of the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation.
