Wine in Tasmania industry began with first plantings in 1823 but waned soon after until the1950s when two immigrants planted their vines and it still wasn't until 1974 the first commercial size vineyards were planted. Some 40 years later, the island state is held in high esteem around the world as a premium cool climate wine region.
