Yesterday I got a call from MY Invites saying I won a $25 vucher for price line! yay, my first win!!! It was for the Kleenex handsantisier 25wol.

Very happy!!

But, I ALSO got a call on Monday from a private number about entering a Disney land comp. The lady (American accented) said I "qualified" for the trip (not won but qualified). She asked a few questions about my marriage status, if I held a credit card, if I had been to America before etc.
She had called me on my mobile, I was in a terrible service area and could barely hear her and she was pausing between everything she said anyway. She then asked me to hold the line.. when she came back she told me it was her first day doing it. She then asked me if I was still interested (the trip was 7 days, for 4 adults, entry to Disney land, Universal studio, then to Port Lauderdale and a 3 night trip on a cruise to Bahamas....all we needed to do was pay for our own flights there and we had 18mths to take the trip). I said yes, still interested, then she said she needed my credit card number... I said why do you need my cc number? She said to register but "dont worry its all legit"...exact words.
Hmmmm.....
I got sus then and said I would need to talk to my hubby first, she needed me to register then, and I said No dont worry about it.

If she had said the word WIN once in the whole conversation or if they were willing to ring back later, or explain what they needed my card for...maybe then I wouldnt of been so sus...

I hope I didnt throw away a real trip...sigh...too new to all this to know what the go is, but cant afford to have my CC ripped off either.

You did the right thing Yazkus.  Im sure theres another thread on here somewhere about exactly the same thing happening to others.  I have never heard of any promoter asking for credit card details before, so consider it a win that you didnt give out your details.

Congrats on your other win too ! Smile

I'm with you Yazkus - sounds "SUS with capital S"

Just be glad you didn't hand over CC number, and forget about it. I've had a call for a winning trip, and it didn't sound one bit like your call. There's dodgy things out there!

I've heard about this scam before - and thats what it is - a scam. Glad you didnt give your credit card details Yazkus - if you break it down, basically strangers from another country were asking for your credit card details and wanted you to agree to it there and then without discussing with anyone first (ie no time to think) and they wanted to get money off you for "flights" (that never would have existed).
On a cheerier note congrats on your Princeline voucher win Smile

Glad u won the priceline prize

the dineyland prize does not include a trip to the bahamas and also a trip to universal studios. my understanding was that u didnt get to choose your date it was 21st -28th january 2010. I think that person was a fraud and you should clap yourself for not giving ur CC over the phone!

I would have asked further details including where they got my information (legally required to answer this question). I will advise that, having asked some people where they got my information has resulted in them immediately discontinuing with the call.

Additionally, any outbound telemarketing calls made within Australia are required to have no line blocking which allows identification of the number the caller is calling from.

Congrats on your win  Smile

In regards to the trip, you definately did the right thing.  Here's an article about a scam that sounds similar to the phone call you received: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2005/10/21/1487604.htm

and there's a few others here:

Tiger, that first report from ABC is exactly what appened to me. They rang my mobile as I NEVER give my home number out, and because Id entered close to 50 comps that fortnight I figured it was one of them ...but it just didnt feel right.
Thanks for the links.
