The Queensland Theatre Company opens its 2012 season today with one of Australia’s most famous plays: Ray Lawler’s Summer of the Seventeenth Doll. Every summer, canecutters Barney and Roo leave Queensland for the Carlton house they share with Nancy and Olive for a season of fun and frivolity. But this summer is different. Nancy is married, Roo is flat broke, and the friends just can’t seem to recreate the chemistry of years gone by. After 17 years, could this be the end?
