JORD logoYes, you heard me right. My new favorite fashion accessory is defined not by its color but by its material. I’m talking about my beautiful wood watch from JORD.
Yes, there is such a thing as a wooden watch. And yes, it works just like a regular watch. But it has a warm and stylish feel that a metal or rubber watch doesn’t have. Not to mention the one-of-a-kind factor!
JORD’s watches are designed as functional fashion accessories. They are made from 100% natural untreated wood from all over the world and stainless steal clasps. Each essence is carefully selected for its color. They currently use maple, sandlewood, blackwood, cherry, teak and bamboo. The result is beautiful black, rich brown, vibrant red, light cream and even green. Lots of models combine different grains to create a 2-tone watch and just like any other brand of watches, they offer many designs from classic and sober to modern and bold as you can see below. And since wood is a natural material, each watch is as unique as you are.
The fact that the wood isn’t treated means that there is no toxic chemical involved which greatly reduces the risk of allergies (very few people experience an allergic reaction as a result of wearing a wooden watch). As far as durability, the internal movement components come from the finest watch manufacturers whereas the glass is scratch-proof. The band and movement housing, being made out of wood, are splash-proof but not waterproof. They can be worn in the kitchen, as the beach, at the gym but should not be immersed in water because it might damage the wood. In terms of maintenance, it’s a pretty straight forward: simply apply a natural protective coating to prevent the wood from drying or cracking. You can use beeswax, a natural lip balm, butcher block oil, etc. If the watch requires a more thorough cleaning, JORD recommends mixing 2 TBSP each of olive oil and lemon juice and apply a small amount using a soft cotton cloth using brisk strokes. jord ely black When I looked at the beautiful selection of wooden watches they offer, my eye was drawn to the Ely in black. I like it’s subtle elegance and understated design. I laugh every time someone glances at it in passing then go back for a second look. They almost all go ‘wow!’ or ‘what is it made of?’ or simply ‘it’s a beautiful watch’. This watch is undeniable beautiful and you can’t go wrong with such a warm dark color. jord ely black 2The Ely is the smallest model and it’s compact size is ideal for my wrist (I removed 2 links to get a perfect fit). A nice surprise with this watch is how light it is, much lighter than most metallic and plastic watches. It also has a pleasant feel on my wrist as it is never too cold nor too hot. I’m really thrilled by JORD’s take on watches. It’s a true demonstration that being green and being sophisticated don’t have to be mutually exclusive anymore. I went from wearing a watch just to tell time to wearing a watch because I love it (and to tell time of course)! I can’t wait for them to expand their collection and maybe offer a few more small feminine models.
