HERE is your chance to help shape the future of Newcastle.
So what do you imagine our city will be like in the year 2114?
What will the buildings be like? What will be the main modes of transport? What will Novocastrians be wearing? What sort of jobs will people have? What will the media landscape be like? How will people communicate? What will they be eating? How about sport? Will sea levels be the same? What about the air quality?
The Newcastle Herald, in conjunction with IDC Hunter, wants to share your thoughts on how this city might look and operate a century into the future.
Today we launch a community competition titled Newcastle Next. It’s a competition of ideas and imagination. We’ve seen what the NSW government and developers have in mind for the place, now it’s your turn. Entries can be written (750 words maximum), video, animation, art, musical or even performance-based. They can look at the city overall or take a specific element such as housing, shipping, transport or technology.
IDC Hunter will provide $2000 in prizemoney, with $1000 for first and two supplementary prizes of $500.
Read the Herald’s opinion ‘‘Visions of a city’s future’’. You can also find out how and why the city needs to become a magnet for innovators.
Entries in Newcastle Next will be published in the Herald’s print and online editions.
The closing date is 5pm, Wednesday, May 7. You can email entries to
community@theherald.com.au (with Newcastle Next in the subject field), mail to PO Box 510 Newcastle 2300 or drop them into our offices at 28 Bolton Street, Newcastle.
Winners will be announced at the Hunter Innovation Forum, to be held May 15 to 17.
IDC Hunter is an independent, not-for-profit organisation involved in a range of initiatives supporting local industry and business development.
