You might have heard that we’ve recently launched an iPad app to make reading the Sydney Alumni Magazine (SAM) even more convenient.

Competition period. The competition commences at 9am on 2 June 2014 (AEST) and ends midnight 15 August 2014(AEST). Entry is only open to persons who, during the competition period, are:

    at least 18 years old; and
    Australian citizens who currently are residing in Australia ; and
    an alumni or donor of the University of Sydney


Prizes. The five (5) most creative and original entries will each receive a 16GB iPad Mini valued at A$499.

Entry requirements

    One entry per individual
    Only entries submitted through official competition form will be considered
    This competition is open to individual entries only, no group entries will be considered valid


Judging process. Entries will be judged according to creativity and originality. A shortlist of 30 entries will be determined by the University of Sydney Alumni and Development Marketing and Communications Team on 19 August 2014. The Vice Principal (Advancement) at the University of Sydney will then select five (5) winners by 22 August 2014.

Winner notification. Winners will be publically announced by the University of Sydney in the alumni electronic newsletter, eSydney, by 5 September 2014.

The University of Sydney shall endeavour to contact each winner via phone and/or email the week after the winners have been selected. In the event that one of the winners cannot be contacted after two weeks, an alternate winner will be selected on the basis of the criteria and the original winner will forfeit any prize.

Claiming the prizes. Winners will be asked to contact the University of Sydney's Division of Alumni and Development to arrange collection of their prize. To claim their prize, prizewinners must provide their full name, postal address, date of birth, current telephone number and email address.

Prizewinners may be required to show valid identification upon collection. Any expense, including taxes, spare parts, maintenance or delivery costs, associated with accepting, taking or using a prize, will be the prize winner’s sole responsibility.
The following additional terms and conditions (T&Cs) apply to the competition

    Competition conductor: The Competition will be conducted by The University of Sydney (ABN 15 211 513 464 and CRICOS Number 00026A) during the competition period.
    Change to terms and conditions: These terms may be amended or replaced by the University in its absolute discretion and at any time.
    Deemed acceptance: Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions (as amended from time to time).
    Eligibility: The following persons are ineligible to enter the competition:
    - people who are not Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia: and
    - members of the University of Sydney Marketing, Communications and Engagement team; or
    - members of the University of Sydney Division of Alumni and Development team.
    Your personal information: The information you provide in the competition form will be used to maintain contact and keep you up-to-date with information about the University, its services, events and achievements. Your personal data will not be disclosed to third party organisations. It may however be passed on to groups affiliated with the University of Sydney, such as alumni organisations and foundations (local and overseas), SU Sport and residential colleges. If you do not wish to receive this information, for your information to be used in this way, or if you would like your name to be removed from our alumni and donor database please contact the Division of Alumni and Development at the University.
    Change of personal details: Each entrant is responsible for notifying the University of any changes to his/her residential address, email address or phone number during and after the competition period.
    Competition entry: Entries must be received by the University during the competition period. Entrants may only submit one entry per individual. If an entrant submits multiple entries in excess of the permitted maximum, only the entry or entries most recently submitted (up to the permitted maximum) will be accepted by the University.
    Original entry: Each entry must be an original work by the entrant and the entrant must have obtained the permission from all persons appearing in photos/videos and property owners to enter this competition in accordance with the Terms. Each entrant warrants that their entry is not, and its use by the University or other persons will not infringe the rights (including intellectual property rights) of any third party.
    Game of skill: The competition is a game of skill, chance plays no part in determining the winner/s and each validly submitted entry will be individually judged by representatives of the University on the basis of originality and creativity, and according to any other criteria specified or adopted by the University.
    Binding decision: A decision of the University in relation to the conduct of the competition, including the selection of winning entries, is binding and conclusive and no correspondence will be entered into.
    Promotional activity: Entrants agree to, at the University’s request:
    a) participate in reasonable promotional activity surrounding the competition or the winning of any prize, free of charge, and they consent to the University and its related bodies corporate using their name and image in promotional material. Without limitation, entrants consent to being broadcast, filmed, photographed or otherwise recorded without compensation while participating in this competition, or in taking or using any prize, and they consent to the University repeating any such broadcast, film or other recording at any time.
    b) consent to the disclosure of their information (including their entry) to third parties for such purposes and grant to the University, its successors and affiliates, a free, non-exclusive, worldwide, sublicenseable, perpetual and irrevocable licence to use, reproduce, distribute, adapt, publish, broadcast communicate and perform their entry, in whole or in part for any purpose including the competition.
    Proof of identity: All entrants agree to provide the University with proof of identity, residency, age and/or proof of entry validity if reasonably requested by the University. Proof of age, identification, residency and entry considered suitable for verification is at the sole discretion of the Promoter. In the event that a prize winner cannot provide suitable proof, that prize winner will forfeit the prize in whole and no substitute will be offered.
    Prizes non-transferable: Prizes are not transferable or redeemable for cash. The prizes or any element of the prizes cannot be exchanged for any other prize/s. The contents of the prizes will be at the University’s sole discretion.
    No expenses: Any expense, including taxes, spare parts, maintenance or delivery costs, associated with accepting, taking or using a prize, will be the prize winner’s sole responsibility.
    No warranties: The University makes no warranties or representations about the fitness for purpose or suitability of any prize and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness for any purpose of any prize, or the failure of any prize to be of merchantable quality. If liability under terms implied by legislation cannot be excluded by the University, the liability of the University is limited to re-supplying the relevant goods or services or paying the cost of replacing them.
    No responsibility: No responsibility will be taken by the University for any changes in dates, times or cancellations or other arrangements that may prevent a winner from accepting, taking or using a prize.
    Disqualifications: The University may, in its absolute discretion, disqualify:
    a) any entry which is not original, is not completed in accordance with these terms, infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party, contains any objectionable or poor quality content, or has the potential to damage the reputation of any person; or
    b) any individual who tampers with the entry process, submits an entry that is not in accordance with the terms, or who has in the opinion of the University, engaged in unlawful or improper conduct that is designed to, or is likely to, adversely affect the fair and proper conduct of the competition or is generally damaging to the goodwill or reputation of the University.
    Varying the competition: The University reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, at any time before the awarding of the prizes to cancel or vary a competition, or cancel, vary or withdraw its prizes. If the University cancels or varies a competition, or cancels, varies or withdraws its prizes, is not:
    a) liable to any person for any costs, loss or damage whatsoever arising out of, or in connection with, such cancellation, variation or withdrawal; or
    b) required to conduct the competition at any other time.
    Entry error: The University accepts no responsibility for late, lost, incorrectly submitted or misdirected entries, for any technological malfunction or failure, Internet traffic congestion, or for outdated or incorrect contact details by which the entrant cannot be contacted during business hours on relevant dates.
    No liability: You enter the competition at your own risk. With the exception of liability which cannot be excluded by law, the Promoter is not be liable for, and an entrant releases the Promoter from, liabilities relating to any direct or indirect loss or damage which is suffered, or for personal injury or sickness suffered or sustained, as a result of entering the competition, failing to win, winning, accepting or using a prize.
    Information supplied: Any information or material provided by entrants to the University when entering the competition will be used by the University for the purpose of promoting the purpose of the competition, conducting the competition, administering the prizes and as otherwise specified in these terms. The University may use any personal information in accordance with its privacy policy available at its website sydney.edu.au. Entrants may access and correct their personal information held by the University, upon request to the University.
