WIN! Badudu Stories

What is it like when an Aboriginal child moves from a remote community into a mainstream school?

In the language of the Wongutha people, badudu means ‘not what it seems’. Written from a child’s perspective, this lively collection of stories by bestselling author May L. O’Brien explores some of the challenges of learning to speak English as a second language for rural and remote Indigenous communities.

Author May L. O’Brien grew up in the Mount Margaret Mission and was a school teacher for 25 years. A tireless and selfless advocate for her people, in 1977 May was awarded a British Empire Medal for her services to education in general and to Aboriginal education in particular.

Thanks to the generous people at Fremantle Press, we have three copies of Badudu Stories to give away. Each copy is valued at $12.99.

To win tell us, in 25 words or less, what you think would be most challenging for a child moving from a small rural community into a large city school.

Type ‘Badudu’ into the subject line and email your answer to susanATkids-bookreviewDOTcom. The most creative answers, as judged by KBR, will win. Be sure to include your full name and address — entries without will be ineligible. Please provide a street address, as prizes cannot be delivered to PO Boxes.

Email to: susan@kids-bookreview.com

Competition runs from Wednesday, 11 June 2014, 9pm to Wednesday, 18 June 2014, 9pm AEST, and the comp is open to residents of Australia, over the age of 18 (mum and dad can enter on behalf of kids). This is a game of skill, not chance. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Prizes cannot be delivered to PO Boxes. To be considered valid, entries must include a name and street address. Privacy statement: Winners' contact details are forwarded to the relevant publisher. Other contact details are not shared. All contact details are permanently deleted at competition end.
