Sunday Reading: What If? (Book Giveaway)

Former NASA roboticist Randall Munroe has been cracking wise about nerd topics (and life in general) since 2005 through the panels of his cult webcomic XKCD. He’s also made some really impressive, really huge data visualisations. Guy’s a bona fide internet hall of famer.

Around two years ago he started a companion blog, What If?, providing “serious scientific answers to absurd hypothetical questions”. Applying real rational rigour to wondering what would happen if everyone in the world stood as close to each other as they could and jumped, everyone landing on the ground at the same instant.

He doesn’t have to provide an answer to the hypothetical question of what would happen if the blog was turned into a book with lots of never-before-answered questions, updated information and expanded entries because he’s done it for real. Finally you can find out what would happen if you pitched a baseball at ninety percent of the speed of light.

What If? is out now, and thanks to Hachette Australia we have five copies to give away. To enter, email your name and address here.
