COUNTRY BOY: James Blundell will perform at Wests Cardiff on November 22.
JAMES Blundell is acknowledged by many as the act that single-handedly turned a younger demographic of Australians towards country music.
He was the first young Australian country artist to create an impact on the mainstream pop charts and for many years was the highest selling country artist in the nation.
Blundell was also the first Australian country act to sign a major label recording deal in Nashville, paving the way for the likes of Keith Urban, Kasey Chambers and others.
In addition to his own success, Blundell has penned hits for Lee Kernaghan, Slim Dusty and Jimmy Little.
It has been a long road for Blundell.
After winning the now named Toyota Star Maker in 1987, Blundell went on to win a string of awards for his music, including for one of the more iconic songs in his repertoire, Way Out West.
He left the Australian music scene after 2000, re-emerging in 2003 with Postcards From Saigon.
The single kick-started his career again and sent him back to the winner's podium.
That history plus all the music Blundell fans have come to love from the years will be on show at Wests Cardiff on Saturday, November 22, at 8.30pm.
Tickets to the show, available by phoning 4979 1900 or visiting westsnewcastle.com.au, cost $24.
