In use …
Out-of-the-box, the Baby Jogger City Lite is easy to put together, it will only take you about 5 minutes to assemble and it’s pretty intuitive. We didn’t even need to check the instructions.
Once on-the-road, the City Lite stroller is comfortable to push both on and off-road. It features full suspension in combination with puncture-proof Ava foam wheels. The larger-sized rear wheels are great for getting up curbs.
The City Lite’s handle is fixed, it’s quite high so if you’re a shorter parent, you might want to give it a test in the show room to make sure you find it comfortable. For a taller parent, you’ll be able to work up a comfortable stride behind this pram.
One of the first things you notice about the Baby Jogger City Lite is how light it is. Weighing in at 7.3kgs, it’s not that much lighter than some other small prams we’ve reviewed. But that .5 – 1kg really makes a difference. The carry handle on the top of the folded stroller also makes the City Lite stroller very easy to move around when folded.
The sling-style seat unit is generous, both in width and depth. The Baby Jogger City Lite stroller features an almost-flat recline which makes it suitable for your baby from infancy. Because of the depth, when fully reclined, the City Lite’s seat is quite bassinet-like, making it comfortably enclosed for your baby or sleeping toddler. It doesn’t fully enclose your baby though, there’s plenty of room to allow air to circulate around your baby and there’s also a ventilation panel at the back of the seat unit.
The seat unit reclines using a simple pulley & strap system. This can be a little fiddly to use, but it does it’s job efficiently. The Baby Jogger City Lite also uses a similar strap system to adjust the 5-point harness. These simpler strap systems keep the City Lite’s weight to a minimum.
The hood of the Baby Jogger City Lite is quite large, comfortably covering your baby’s upper torso and head when the seat is fully reclined. It features two peek-a-boo windows and an aluminium rim which adds extra strength.
The Baby Jogger City Lite has plenty of storage. There’s a reasonable sized underseat basket plus a pocket on the back of the pram. The City Lite accessory pack also includes a parent and child tray in addition to a rain cover.
The fold action is always a stand-out feature of Baby Jogger strollers and the City Lite is no exception. You depress a small button on the back of the chassis and pull the handle in the middle of the seat up and the stroller folds in and automatically locks. You can do this comfortable with one hand (holding a baby in the other). To unfold you flip the lock open and pull the stroller up and out. This requires a bit of strength and you need to get low to the ground, so it’s more challenging holding a baby or after a caesarian. The fold size is small to medium.
The break is a flip-on, flip-off tab located on the left-hand side of the chassis.
We found the Baby Jogger City Lite an excellent option for public transport. The mid-sized rear wheels make getting on-and-off the bus or train controllable and the pram fits comfortably in the accessable bay of the bus, leaving a seat free for parents to sit (on the Sydney buses).
The simple one-handed fold and nifty carry handle make it possible for you to fold your pram holding your baby and board the bus if you need to fold your pram.
Finally, the City Lite stroller is really well balanced. Usually I’d expect a stroller which is easy to get up and down curbs to tip easily or vise-versa. The Baby Jogger both pops up curbs easily and doesn’t tip easily, even when you have a larger baby fully reclined in the seat unit.

Consider this …
The break on the Baby Jogger City Lite is quite stiff and has an audible click. This has an advantage in that you can always be sure you’ve flipped it on. But it can be a bit slower to move your stroller in some circumstances; like getting off a bus. Also, the single break tab on the left hand side requires you to awkwardly stretch to access it if you are in a confined space.
On a slight horizontal slope, we found the Baby Jogger City Lite slightly veered down the slope. You can still push it with one hand but you might find yourself correcting it every so often.
The 5-point harness clip is a bit on the plasticy side and may pinch fingers – so keep your’s & your baby’s fingers clear when you clip it together. Also the shoulder pads can slide down the harness and over the clip, be careful you don’t loose them.
The verdict …
The Baby Jogger City Lite stroller is a great choice for an every day town & local park stroller. It’s also a great choice for local public transport and for travel in general.
You get good value for your $369.
