http://www.yenmag.net/win/win-a-scribe-book-pack/Book worms, tell your friends you can’t come out for a the usual piccolo latte and Kindle Destruction planning session this week because you’ll be bunkered down with two of the best books on the shelves right now – Lion Attack! by Oliver Mol and Chigozie Obioma’s The Fishermen, thanks to Scribe Publications.
Lion Attack! $27.99
Introducing our homegrown dude version of Lena Dunham. Oliver Mol’s debut memoir is a free-flowing account of life, love and work as a 20-something in Australia, and it is entirely hypnotising. Mol’s daydreams are contrasted with recollections of his unhappy childhood in Texas, and the stories of him working at a KeepCup warehouse in Melbourne are hilariously frank. It’s a punctuated, poetic and confident voice that doesn’t confuse honesty with self-indulgence.
The Fishermen $29.99
Nigerian-born, USA-based Chigozie Obioma gives us The Fishermen, a debut novel about four brothers growing up in Nigeria. When their father has to travel to a distant city for work, the brothers take advantage of his extended absence to skip school and go fishing. At the forbidden nearby river, they encounter a madman who predicts that one of the brothers will kill another. What happens from there is a story that has earned appraisal from literarly talents such as Man Booker Prize winner Eleanor Catton and Here Come the Dogs author Omar Musa.
