Based on the beyond classic novel by Gustave Flaubert, the film adaptation of Madame Bovary follows the tragic story of a young French girl who, in an attempt to marry up and out of the pig farm she was raised in, ends up with a small-town doctor. After realising that the role of bored housewife is not one she is well suited to, Madame Bovary becomes enticed by the infinitely more fun pastime of high society living. Swept up in a world of overindulgence and outrageously handsome men who are definitely not her husband, Madame Bovary is a storm in a porcelain teacup. This French period drama looks likely to tick all the boxes from jaw-dropping costuming to a love triangle/square/pentagon. Oh, and did we mention it stars Mia Wasikowska from Alice In Wonderland and Ezra Miller from The Perks of Being a Wallflower? Yeah, how do you say ‘sign us up’ in French?
