MEDOWIE Christian School will come alive with The Sound of Music this month.

About 60 students from kindergarten through to year 12 are set to star in the school's classic production, to be directed by teacher Diane Pietsch.

It has been 50 years since the 1965 hit flick starring Julie Andrews was released.

So, it is only fitting that the school, celebrating 20 years in 2015, would take it on.

The Sound of Music centres around Maria, a sweet young girl whose love of freedom makes it clear to her superiors she is not suited for a religious life.

She is sent to be the governess to Captain Von Trapp's seven children.

Unlike the previous governesses, Maria, to be played by 17-year-old Serena Ireland, becomes friends with the children through their mutual love of music.

Even the strict captain, to be played by 16-year-old Jack Twelvetree, begins to admire Maria.

The school's deputy principal, Tracey Deal, said the musical gave students the "occasion to develop confidence and teamwork skills".

The opening performance will be held in the school's hall from 7pm on July 30 followed by 11am and 7pm performances on July 31.

Tickets, available from trybooking.com/IDBC, start at $5 for students, $10 for adults and $25 for families of four.

The cost does not include transaction fees.

The Examiner has one double pass to give away to the final performance on July 31.

To win, send your name and contact details in an email titled "Music" to ewatts@fairfaxmedia.com.au. The winner will be notified by 5pm on Wednesday, July 22.
