Yen is putting on a couple of advanced screenings of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and we don’t need a Magic 8 Ball to tell us there won’t be a dry eye in the house. Equally hilarious and touching, the film follows Greg, a high school student whose only objective for his senior year is to fly totally under the radar. He reluctantly kisses that goal goodbye when his mother forces him to befriend Rachel, a classmate diagnosed with leukemia. The cinematic lovechild of Wes Anderson and Michel Gondry, it’s an amazingly creative coming of age story that manages to dodge the cutesy and angsty bullets that kill almost every film from that genre. So grab a choc-top and come get punched in the heart with us at 6pm on Monday 24 August at Hoyts Broadway in Sydney, or 6:30pm on Wednesday 26 August at Village Jam Factory in Melbourne.
