When the film Montage of Heck was released earlier this year, it was hailed as one of the best rock documentaries ever made. But as good as the film was, it didn’t afford viewers the opportunity to really sink their teeth into the rare photos, illustrations and objects it dug up from Kurt’s personal archive. That’s just the nature of the medium, which moves on at 24 frames-per-second no matter how much you wish it'd slow down.

Thankfully the film was recently given the book treatment, and it's a grunge-soaked doozy. Released by Hachette, Cobain: Montage of Heck expounds upon the film’s strengths, allowing readers to pore over its visuals and extended interviews as deeply and slowly as you can bare.
