“The most exciting documentary for fans of edgier modern dance since Pina” – Variety Magazine
Take the stage with Batsheva Dance company and Ohad Naharin, the internationally renowned Israeli choreographer whose works have redefined the language of dance. Naharin has spent the past 25 years pushing the boundaries of physical and political expression as the artistic director of Batsheva.
Multi-award-winning director, Tomer Heymann, has created a portrait of a maverick still fighting for creative freedoms in his homeland. On top of his productions, Naharin, still fit and limber in his mid-60s, is driven to bring the joy of his movement techniques – the language of gaga – to people of all ages and physical abilities.
This is a tale that works on the human dimension, and as a social, creative and political narrative. It’s a tale that almost didn’t get told. For years Naharin refused the Heymann brothers access until finally surrendering his boxes of archives. The result is a tour de force and a feast for the senses.
Mr Gaga is screening exclusively at Cinema Nova from June 30.
The Australian Jewish News has five double passes to give away to the film.
