Do you let your child play on apps? Or are you a parent that is anti-screen time?

I am a parent whose sometimes a bit funny when it comes to letting children sit in front of technology. I get a serious bought of mum guilt when Cbeebies is on, or even when Evie sees me on my phone/laptop/iPad – which is so ironic because as a blogger and a freelancer, technology is my life.

Recently we’ve decided to let Evie try out an iPad. Firstly so she can have some solo learning time and secondly, to prepare her for school, where technology is such a huge feature from a young age.

I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised to discover some great apps on the app store, that are perfect for a pre-schooler.

Kidloland App

Kidloland is a fun, educational app, that has been designed to be the perfect pre-school companion for your child.

The app is designed for ages 0-5. The nursery rhymes are ideal for babies to listen to in the background and both the games and songs, are a great interactive learning tool for toddlers.

Educational Benefits

The Kidloland app, first and foremost is educational. It offers a huge variety of learning adventures. It teaches important things like sorting, sequencing, matching, and much more.

There are over 100+ educational games, where little ones can not only learn new things, but they can also build on their cognitive skills and hand-eye co-ordination, all whilst listening to fun and memorable songs.

The app is absolutely bursting with both nursery rhymes and educational songs. All the songs are accompanied by adorable animations, and the words to each song are displayed at the bottom of the screen.

This is such a wonderful feature for budding readers and gives children an opportunity to build on their vocabulary.

The bright colours, movements, sounds and music make this app a lot of fun for young children, and it’s all really easy for little hands to navigate.

The Kidloland app features early learning songs and activities on various topics. These include; ABC’s, shapes, colours, animals, fruits and vegetables, vehicles, Christmas, and the months of the year.

One thing we love about this app is that the songs are interactive as well as the games. Unlike watching nursery rhymes on youtube, with the Kidloland app, your child can touch the screen and the objects and characters come to life, making different sounds and actions.

Travel Benefits

Another wonderful feature of the Kidloland app, is that once you have downloaded the songs and rhymes, they are available to use without internet connection.

This is so perfect if you are going on holiday or long car journeys.

We’re heading off travelling this year. This app will seriously come in handy for those boring waits at the airport and for long haul flights.

I think this is a great app for every parent to have on their phone or iPad for on the go. It is a great form of entertainment for those moments when your toddler gets bored. It can also be a complete life saver for unexpected traffic jams!

Teaching About Technology

We’ve been using Kidloland with Evie for a couple of weeks now and are absolutely astounded at how quickly she has learnt to navigate her way around. She has picked up how to use the touch screen and how to interact with songs.

She’s 2 1/4 and can already use a few of the basic games solo. She knows how to choose what she wants and can flip from the home screen, to games and songs, with ease.

She’ll even happily touch different elements of the screen, to see what each animation will do next.

Negatives

Our only negative thoughts about the app is the phonics pages. When starting school, it is so important for children to learn about the lower case letters first. Kidloland only has options to learn about the upper case.

As we write predominantly in lower case, I’m not sure why this is something they choose to do. But, with bundles of other features, this is something that can easily be overlooked.

Kidloland claims to be the perfect pre-school companion for your child. As far as apps go, we definitely agree with this. With over 300+ nursery rhymes and 220+ games, there is plenty for your child to learn and do.
