Martin Scorsese finally realises his long-held dream to direct Silence, an adaptation of the Shūsaku Endō novel. Silence tells the story of 17th century Jesuits Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Garupe (Adam Driver), who travel from Portugal to Japan to search for their missing mentor Ferreira (Liam Neeson). In a time when Christianity was outlawed in Japan, and hence their presence forbidden, the missionaries are faced with the ultimate test of faith in their efforts to spread Catholicism through the country.
