Celebrating 26 years as 'The Home Of Great Short Film' in 2017, Flickerfest is bringing its National Tour to Canberra across two nights, showcasing the Best of Australian Shorts and Best of EU Shorts programme, with films hand-picked from the festival's 2,400 entries.

The Flickerfest 2017 tour to Canberra, on Wednesday April 5 at 7pm, will screen the Best of Australian Shorts programme, including the suspenseful Highway by Canberra native Vanessa Gazy. Against the backdrop of the Snowy Mountains, "news bulletins from the future forewarn of grave danger for a teen runaway hitchhiking alone on a mountain highway".

Also screening are Flickerfest Best Animation award winner Fish with Legs, with voices by Frank Woodley and Barry Otto, and MESSiAH, a playful collision of cultures in the Australian wilderness, starring David Gulpilil and written and directed by Underbelly star Damian Walshe-Howling. This screening is followed by a fabulous After Party with drinks from Flickerfest's generous partners. 

On Thursday April 6 at 7pm, get ready for the Best of EU Shorts programme, offering a specially curated selection of European gems. Highlights of this programme are recent Academy Award winner Mindenki (Sing) from Hungary, in which Zsófi, a young girl admitted to a famous children's choir, needs to teach her cruel teacher a lesson; the Academy Nominated Spanish love story Timecode about two security guards who find an interesting way to communicate with each other; and Flickerfest 2017 Best EU Short award winner Il Silenzio (The Silence) a co-production between Italy and France, in which a young refugee girl has to translate things way beyond her years to her mother.
