Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe with a day of classic movie screenings!

On Saturday 27 May, Kristian Fletcher presents a day of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe movies to celebrate the late actresses' birthdays at Metro Arts 109 Edward St Brisbane CBD.

Audrey Hepburn (born May 1929 - passing in January 1993) was a British actress, model, dancer and humanitarian. Recognised as a film and fashion icon, Hepburn was active during Hollywood's Golden Age of cinema.

Famous for such movies as Roman Holiday, Breakfast At Tiffany's and My Fair Lady, Hepburn also scored Oscar nominations and critical acclaim for other movies which are often overlooked. These are the movies which will be screened as part of the afternoon event.

Fletcher launched the matinee movie event 'An Afternoon with Audrey Hepburn' at Metro Arts in 2009 and this marks its third instalment, each time changing the line-up of movies on offer.

On the bill is the France-set romantic comedy Love in the Afternoon, followed by the controversial Children's Hour. Audrey was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in the thriller Wait Until Dark, directed by her then-husband Mel Ferrer.

Fletcher has presented classic movie screenings in Brisbane for over 16 years and is a huge Audrey Hepburn fan.

"Upon discovering Audrey Hepburn as a teenager, her movies helped spur my love of classic cinema," Fletcher said.

Marilyn Monroe was born in 1926 and would have been 92 on June 1st. Fletcher has programmed Monroe's Prince and the Showgirl - an iconic picture which turns sixty this year.

Co-starring Laurence Olivier, the film is infamous for drama behind-the-scenes. The making of the film was documented in 2011's My Week With Marilyn.

The Lumen Room is the newly-refurbished cinema on the ground level of Metro Arts. The intimate, 100-seat cinema is the perfect place to relive these classic movies.
